THEATER
Show 'Na cola do sapateado' runs at Teatro Leblon until July 31st

A mix of tap dancing with steps of samba, frevo, chorinho, bossa nova, and xaxado helps tell the story of seven students who created a code, combining cheating on a Geography test with dance moves in 'Na cola do sapateado'. The show's season has been extended at Teatro Leblon (Sala Fernanda Montenegro) until July 31st.

More than just a hit with the public and critics, the show — created in the mid-80s — won over children and teenagers and formed an unexpected legion of young tap dancers who, at the end of each session, showed interest in the art that fused tap, dance, and theater.

The play takes place on a day of a surprise Brazilian Geography test, and the students arrange a code through the country's rhythms. 'This was the first time in the history of tap dance that it was adapted to our rhythms,' explains Gisela Saldanha, who shares the production with author Maria Dulce Saldanha. In addition to serving as inspiration for the opening of the Catsapá Musical School, the musical has conquered a generation of new artists over the last 20 years.

Through a partnership with Metrô Rio — the event's sponsor via the Culture Incentive Law — 'Na cola do sapateado' can be seen by institutions serving underprivileged children, ensuring free tickets and transportation to the theater.
